DESCRIPTION:July 10-20: The 22nd Annual Plein Air Easton. Plein Air Easton is the largest and most prestigious juried Plein Air painting competition in the United States. Artists from all over the U.S. and beyond participate in this week-long festival. Amateurs can also join in the fun during the highly anticipated Quick Draw Competition. This is art as a spectator sport! Head into the historic district on July 11th as galleries and shops host demos and receptions to celebrate the kick-off night! Live music is sure to be included\, retail specials\, Meet and Greet receptions\, demos and more. The Nocturne Paint-Out will follow afterward with artists’ painting into the night downtown. Plein Air juried artist’s original works are exhibited throughout the week\, competition awards are given\, and paintings are sold\, sometimes right off the easel! Highlights include the open-to-all Quick Draw Competition\, demonstrations\, workshops\, exhibits\, and lectures. For those 18 years old and younger\, there is a Next Generation Competition\, exhibit\, and sale.

DESCRIPTION:July 11: Bear Me Into Freedom: Frederick Douglass and the Struggle for America’s Promise. Bear Me Into Freedom is a tribute to Talbot County’s native son\, Frederick Douglass\, made more poignant during America’s Semiquincentennial. Bear Me Into Freedom is a 60-minute immersive experience\, a video installation portraying the odyssey of Frederick Douglass from his birth and enslavement in the Eastern Shore’s Talbot County to his life’s work championing abolition\, emancipation\, and equal rights\, and his triumphal return to the county as an elder statesman having become one of the most consequential figures of the 19th century.
