SUMMARY:Sharing Wisdom Well
DESCRIPTION:Many people reach a stage of life where they want to give back by supporting others— former colleagues\, family members\, friends\, or mentees— but aren’t always sure how to be most helpful. This course is designed for people who already bring experience\, perspective\, and good intentions\, but want a bit more skill and structure in their mentoring conversations. It is equally well suited for those who feel ready to mentor\, but would appreciate some guidance in getting started. \nThis practical\, interactive workshop focuses on the elements that make mentoring truly effective: listening with intention\, asking thoughtful questions\, clarifying goals\, adding structure to conversations\, and offering feedback in ways that are both supportive and useful. You’ll have opportunities to practice these skills with peers and reflect on how to apply them in real‑life relationships. \nWhether you are mentoring former colleagues\, family members\, friends\, or volunteering as a mentor in formal programs\, this course helps you use your wisdom in ways that genuinely support others.

SUMMARY:The Modern Papacy
DESCRIPTION:After the enthusiastic response to last fall’s History of the Papacy\, Raymond returns with a focused look at the last two centuries\, a period marked by dramatic transformation both within the Church and across the world. \nIn the 19th century\, the Papacy weathered the French Revolution\, the imprisonment of popes\, the rise of Ultramontanism\, the industrial revolution\, the spread of socialism\, Bismarck’s Kulturkampf\, the loss of the Papal States\, and the controversy surrounding papal infallibility—all while navigating a tense relationship with the new Kingdom of Italy. \nIn the 20th century\, the Papacy sought to clarify its position on emerging social‑justice issues and adopted a more international approach to its teaching. It was unable to prevent or redirect the course of the world wars\, and large parts of Europe came under communist control. Vatican II attempted to rejuvenate the Church\, though not without intense internal conflict. The Papacy’s stance on artificial birth control and its mishandling of sexual‑abuse cases caused significant grief and loss of credibility. The century closed with financial scandals and the theological debates surrounding liberation theology.

SUMMARY:Works by Little-Known Composers and Little-Known Works by Well-Known Composers
DESCRIPTION:Many remarkable composers never became widely known\, yet left behind music that is inventive\, beautiful\, and full of personality. At the same time\, even the most famous composers—Ravel\, Strauss\, Saint‑Saëns\, Beethoven\, Mozart\, Tchaikovsky\, and others—created works that remain overshadowed by their greatest hits. \nIn this course\, Muphen introduces us to both: the striking music of lesser‑known composers such as Marina Dranishnikova\, James Hook\, Ferdinand Ries\, Friedrick Gulda\, and Caspar Cassadó\, and the overlooked gems tucked inside the catalogs of the great masters. Together\, these works reveal a richer\, more surprising classical landscape than the standard repertoire suggests. \nWe will hear all of these — and more!
