Friends of the Library Hosts Fall Book Sale ~ Collecting Donated Books on October 24 for Sale on October 29-31
The Friends of the Talbot County Free Library is holding the third of its triannual book sales in support of the Library in October. The sale is free and open
to the public on Friday, October 30, 9 am – 4 pm, and Saturday, October 31, 10 am – 3 pm. Members of the Friends may attend an exclusive pre-sale on Thursday, October 29, 5 – 7 pm…and anyone can come to that pre-sale and join the Friends that night to take advantage of this early-bird opportunity.
Payment for books bought on any of the sale dates must be made by cash or check only.
In a change from previous sales, the Friends will be accepting donations of books for the sale on one day only: Saturday, October 24, 10 am – 2 pm, at the Easton Branch of the Library. Donated books must be in good “like new” condition and there is a strict limit of only one bag or box of books per donation. Textbooks, encyclopedias, periodicals, CDs, DVDs, and reference works more than two years old will not be accepted.
Mary Honeman, chair of the Friends book sale committee, said, “We’ve made some changes to our policies for accepting donated books to make the whole process more manageable. We were getting inundated with too many books. Fewer books will make it easier for volunteers to organize the sale and shoppers will be able to effortlessly spot books they may want to purchase. We may take in fewer books, yet the books we offer for sale will continue to raise a significant amount of money to fund our support of the Library.”
Dana Newman, Director of the Talbot County Free Library, said, “The proceeds from the Friends book sales go to make the Library a better place for the community and the people who use it. We would not be able to provide the number and quality of fun and engaging family programs that we can – like the summer reading programs for children and teens – without the fundraising efforts of our Friends. And the sale not only supports the Library financially, but it’s also a place for readers to find book treasures at just the right price.”
