Oxford Christmas Market Offers Gifts That Give Back

A gift chosen at Holy Trinity’s Christmas Market can brighten more than one person’s holiday. Purchases help support local organizations providing childcare, shelter, mentoring, animal welfare, and other services across Talbot County.

The annual market returns Saturday, Dec. 5, from 9am to 2pm at the Church of the Holy Trinity, 502 S. Morris St. in Oxford. Shoppers can find gifts from Eastern Shore artisans, specialty foods, homemade baked goods, and festive greens, plus a chance to catch up with friends and neighbors.

The Women of the Church of the Holy Trinity and community volunteers organize and staff the market. Preparations begin months in advance as organizers source items that give returning shoppers something new to discover. This year’s selection includes a specially curated collection under the holiday tent that highlights the work of local artisans.

“Our goal is to have something for everyone,” said event planners Leslie Kelly and Linda Wilson.

A loyal following has made the market part of many shoppers’ holiday traditions. Visitors can browse for gifts, pick up something for their holiday table, and enjoy a complimentary cup of coffee or hot chocolate. The church hall will serve lunch from 11am to 1pm.

The gathering also carries forward a tradition of community service. The Women of Holy Trinity have supported charitable causes since 1903, and all funds raised through the market support local projects, scholarships, and mission work.

Last year’s beneficiaries included Building African American Minds, Chesapeake Multicultural Resource Center, Critchlow Adkins Children’s Centers, Dixon House, Introduction to Careers in Healthcare, Oxford Volunteer Fire Department, Talbot Humane, Talbot Interfaith Shelter, Talbot Senior Center, and Talbot Mentors and Scholars.

Each purchase helps continue that work, connecting the pleasure of finding a thoughtful gift with support for the community.
