Katherine’s overview will include iconic Amsterdam vistas, such as the fields of tulips and meandering canals, as well as lesser-known gems like The Royal Palace of Amsterdam refurbished by Napoleon and still containing his specially designed bedroom. She will also highlight the many neighborhoods that dot the city.
Amsterdam offers a wealth of music options, from contemporary venues, to the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Dutch National Opera and Ballet. Museum enthusiasts will find plenty to explore. You can celebrate King’s Day with the Dutch and grieve on Remembrance Day, recognizing so many of its citizens killed during World War II.
Since the Netherlands is a small country, you can easily explore beyond Amsterdam by train or car. Nearby towns worth visiting include Haarlem, with its 10th-century history and the Frans Hals Museum, and Lelystad, home to the Nieuw Land Poldermuseum, which tells the story of how the Dutch have reclaimed land from the sea using canals, windmills, and modern technology.
