Groundbreaking at St Vincent de Paul
Talbot County Council Members Keasha Haythe and Lynn Mielke recently attended the groundbreaking ceremony for St. Vincent De Paul’s (SVDP) building addition at their property located at 29533 Canvasback Drive in Easton, MD.
The expansion and renovation will empower the organization to continue their work serving the community through the food pantry and thrift store, and expand their advisors space.
SVDP was awarded Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding in the amount of $625,000 from the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development, which is processed by Talbot County Government locally. In addition, the Talbot County Council was able to allocate $100,000 in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to support the project.
St. Vincent de Paul is a 100% volunteer organization that provides food items to over 500 individuals and families each month, and provides financial assistance to include rent, utilities, baby and household goods, health care, and transport needs. In 2022, donations and shopping provided over 845,000 pounds of food, worth $1.2 Million to children, seniors, and adults on the Eastern Shore.
During the groundbreaking, the Council Members were joined by Assistant Secretary Carol Gilbert, Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development, local delegation members Senator Johnny Mautz and Delegate Tom Hutchinson, and Willow Construction in celebrating the significant moment.
