After the last sip of champagne has been swallowed, Chesapeake Forum will welcome in the New Year with classes that will take you outside in search of winter birds, on a journey to the Arctic Circle without leaving home, or on the edge of your seat learning about Maryland’s extraordinary constitutional crisis. When Anthony Guessregen, owner of Anthony’s Ristorante Italiano in Oxford, met Laura Richeson, Director of Development and Marketing for Talbot Interfaith Shelter (TIS), he was immediately intrigued with the organization and its mission. After learning that one of his employees and her family had received life-changing assistance from TIS, he was inspired to do something to help ensure that more of our neighbors experiencing homelessness would have access to the resources they need to regain stability. Anthony decided to host a fundraiser to benefit Talbot Interfaith Shelter.

Talbot Interfaith Shelter (TIS) is much more than a homeless shelter. Every guest that walks through its doors participates in TIS’ S4 Program, which is designed to guide local families and individuals step-by-step from homelessness to self-sufficiency. Each “S” represents a phase of the program: Shelter, Stability, Support, and Success. Guests will achieve many milestones as they rebuild their lives, but they all have their eye on the last “S.” Success means they are able to live independently once again.

On Saturday, January 13th, 2024, at 1pm, the Tilghman Watermen’s Museum Speaker Series will host Maegan White from ShoreRivers. Maegan will speak about restoring the waterways on the Eastern Shore.

The Talbot County Garden Club announces its 2024 winter lecture series featuring opportunities for you to learn the most current local and regional approaches to florals and gardens. Presenters will offer expert insights and tips that you can apply at home and in your own private garden.

Mary Kramer of “Mother Mary’s Creations” and Deanna Pratt of “Ethel Mae Studio” are thrilled to announce the opening of their shared creative artists’ workspace: Open Studio of Easton on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. The grand opening is scheduled for Saturday, January 6, 2024, from 11am to 6pm.

The Easton Police Department is excited to announce its first Community Police Academy. The goal of this program is to educate the public about the Easton Police Department and to increase the rapport between community members and police officers.

Upper Shore Aging (USA) was recently awarded a 2023 Thome Aging Well grant to support the expansion of its diabetes education program for seniors. The goal of the grant project is to use the more than 84,000 Meals on Wheels meals delivered annually through USA as a vehicle for diabetes/health screening and education, social connection, and engagement in Senior Center services.

On Sunday, December 17th the Tilghman United Methodist Church is hosting a Christmas Concert of local musicians. The concert features vocalist Beth Ann Dorman of Four All Seasons accompanied by Melinda Finlay singing a selection of Christmas and Holiday songs. Opening the evening is vocalist and flutist Ashton Mooday of Salisbury accompanied by JoAnn Kelley of Tilghman. We will end with music by David Miller and a few carols for all.
