14th SADDLIN’ UP for BREAST CANCER TRAIL EVENT

On September 19, the Tuckahoe Equestrian Center (TEC) is the site for this 14th annual event to raise funds for The Red Devils, a Maryland nonprofit organization who provide life enhancing support services to breast cancer patients and their families while undergoing treatment.
Since 2002, The Red Devils has invested nearly $5 million to fund treatment support for nearly 10,000 Maryland breast cancer families so that loved ones may enter or remain in life-saving treatment. They have partnerships with 31 hospitals or other facilities throughout Maryland.
Medical staff and social workers at those hospitals refer their patients to approved business partners who provide a variety of services that include family support (60%), medical (35%), and transportation (25%) at no chare.
The Red Devils name is inspired by Katherine Russel Rich, author of “The Red Devil – to Hell With Cancer and Back.” It is a window into the heat of another young woman whose struggle with breast cancer is marked by courage, grace, and humor. “Red Devil” is a common name for chemotherapy drugs known to many breast cancer survivors for the brilliant red color.
Saturday kicks off with an All Pinked Out with a Little Red parade and contest. Riders go all out painting and/or dressing up their horses before heading out on the Tuckahoe State Park trails for a couple hours. They return to the TEC Clubhouse for a home cooked lunch and to write in their bids on the Silent Auction. Not to worry non-horse folks – it includes lots of items you will appreciate and want to take home with you too. It is open from 10am to 2:30pm.
And then there’s the Raffle:
1 – a week’s stay in an ocean front OC Condo that sleeps 8;
2 – a $100 worth of Maryland Lottery Scratch Off tickets; or
3 – a Camp/Beach Bundle that includes a tent, blanket, cooler of goodies, and so much more.
Tickets are 10 each, or 6 for $50. Winners will be drawn that afternoon after all the prizes for the day have been awarded. You can purchase tickets during the event, or on line with The Red Devils at www.the-red-devils.org. Being present is not necessary for the OC and Scratch Offs as we will mail your winnings to you.
Every year the Saddlin’ Up for Breast Cancer Event raises more for The Red Devils than the years before – this year their goal is top last year’s $12,000, so stop by to purchase raffle tickets, bid the Silent Auction, watch the Parade, and have lunch. Non-riders are a minimum donation of $10 / riders are $25 each.
