A section of Maryland Route 662 is scheduled to temporarily close on or around October 1, 2024, to facilitate construction work related to the new University of Maryland Shore Regional Medical Center, according to University of Maryland Shore Regional Health (UM SRH) officials. Vehicle traffic will be detoured to State Route 50 (Ocean Gateway); the closure will extend from Airport Road on the south end to Hiners Lane on the north end, and is expected to last approximately seven months, with anticipated reopening prior to the start of the 2025 summer travel season.

Talbot County Women’s Club is hosting its fourth annual Candy Land Adventure fundraiser along with crafts, pumpkin decorating, and games for kids, meet Queen Frostine, raffles, and story time on Saturday, October 26 at a new location – the VFW on Glebe Road in Easton.

Easton Airport Day is pleased to announce the return of Qlarant as the Warbird Sponsor for this year’s highly anticipated event. After the unfortunate weather-related cancellation of the 2023 event, the 14th annual Easton Airport Day is now scheduled for October 12, 2024, and promises a fun experience for all attendees. The Warbirds of Easton Airport will be displayed on the Qlarant Warbird Ramp prior to the Formation Flyover, the centerpiece of the festivities.

Learn about ecological friendly gardening at the Oct. 10 meeting of the Chesapeake Bay Herb Society. Taylor Applegarth and Ted Martini will cover such topics as soil health, native plants, water conservation, pest management, wildlife habitat, biodiversity, and reducing waste. They will explain gardening techniques in each area that help improve the environment—as well as your garden.

Tred Avon Players (TAP) is delighted to announce its upcoming production of Noël Coward’s classic comedy BLITHE SPIRIT, running from Oct 24 to Nov 3, 2024, at the Oxford Community Center. Directed by TAP veteran Alison Lynch, this spirited and witty play promises an evening of supernatural hilarity and sophisticated charm.

Renowned physician, scientist, and gerontologist, Mark Lachs, MD, MPH, will discuss “The Changing Face of Aging – High Tech Meets High Touch” in two free talks on October 23 in Easton and October 24 in Chestertown. Brought to the Shore by Upper Shore Aging (USA), a nonprofit serving Talbot, Caroline, and Kent Counties, Dr. Lachs is a dynamic speaker who has appeared on NPR’s Morning Edition and All Things Considered, The Today Show and Good Morning America, and written pieces on aging for the Wall Street Journal and other lay publications.

The Oxford Business Association has been supporting local nonprofits since 2007 with an auction of one-of-a-kind painted Picket Fences. Local artists have volunteered their time and talents to create these 4-picket sections of the iconic Oxford Picket fence, depicting life on the Eastern Shore. We are pleased this year to welcome several new artists and organizations to the project. The fences will be on display throughout the town of Oxford through early October. This year there are 11 fences, and each was created in support of a Talbot County nonprofit. On October 19th, the fences will be sold at auction at the Oxford Community Center. All proceeds from each fence will go to their respective nonprofits.

On Saturday, October 19th, 2024, from 10:00am until 7:00pm the Tilghman Island Volunteer Fire Company will hold its annual Tilghman Island Day Celebration.
Local watermen and other members of the community plan a number of exhibits and demonstrations designed to highlight the Chesapeake Bay waterman’s way of life. There will also be a variety of waterman’s games to watch or participate in starting at 11:00am.

Talbot County Council Members Keasha Haythe and Lynn Mielke recently attended the groundbreaking ceremony for St. Vincent De Paul’s (SVDP) building addition at their property located at 29533 Canvasback Drive in Easton, MD.
