The Easton Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) is pleased to announce the opportunity for a Mature Woman’s Grant to females age 25 and over who are residents of one of the following Maryland counties: Kent, Queen Anne’s, Caroline, Talbot or Dorchester.

For generations, the rhythms of life on Tilghman Island have been measured by the tides. Long before sunrise, local watermen head onto the Chesapeake Bay, where knowledge passed from one generation to the next guides every decision—from reading the weather to understanding the seasonal movements of oysters, crabs, and fish. Their work is physically demanding, economically uncertain, and deeply connected to the health of the Bay, yet it remains one of Maryland’s most enduring maritime traditions.

The St. Michaels Community Center (SMCC) is pleased to announce the installation of new bicycle racks at both the Community Center (103 Railroad Ave.) and Treasure Cove Thrift Shop (100 N. Talbot St.), thanks to the generosity of the Rotary Club of St. Michaels and the expertise of Easton Cycle and Sport.

Easton residents won’t have to wait much longer to get their hands on Zaxby’s famous chicken fingers and wings. The popular quick-service restaurant chain is scheduled to open its newest location in July at 8275 Ocean Gateway in Easton, the former Wendy’s site along U.S. Route 50.

In tribute to America’s 250 Birthday Celebration, Linda Schwarten Evans, Founder and President of The Conference Table Seminars, offers training and development speeches and seminars to the public as her long-time business.

Coming July 11-12, CBMM’s Boater Safety Course teaches participants the basics needed to safely and confidently operate a vessel on Maryland waterways. Individuals and families with children 10-and-up are welcome to participate. Maryland boaters born after July 1, 1972, are required to have a Certificate of Boating Safety Education. Graduates of our Department of Natural Resources-approved course are awarded a certificate that is good for life.

Log canoe racing is a quintessential Chesapeake pastime and time-honored tradition. Races featuring Chesapeake Bay sailing log canoes are a staple of the region, with competitions held along the Chester, Miles, Choptank, and Tred Avon rivers. Known for their iconic design featuring towering masts and oversized sails, the log canoes can reach speeds of 10 knots or more through coordinated teamwork. To keep the vessels balanced and upright, crew members climb onto 15-foot springboards that extend from the sides of the boats.
